Whiptail Catfish:

The Whiptail Catfish is an elongated bottom-dwelling freshwater fish admired for its streamlined body and long, whip-like tail that give it a sleek, almost reptilian appearance in the aquarium. It spends much of its time grazing along the tank bottom on algae and biofilm, adding both visual interest and helpful scavenging behavior to peaceful community setups.

Scientific Name: Rineloricaria sp.

Care Guide:

Size: Up to about 4–6 inches (10–15 cm) in total length (including tail filament) as an adult.

Temperature: 75–82 °F (24–28 °C) — the warm, tropical range typical for many South American catfish.

pH: 6.0–7.5 — slightly acidic to neutral water is ideal.

Temperament: Peaceful and generally community-safe with non-aggressive tank mates. They are mostly bottom-dwelling grazers and often more active at dusk or night.

Diet: Omnivorous. They’ll graze biofilm and algae naturally and should be fed a mix of algae wafers, sinking pellets, blanched vegetables (e.g., zucchini, spinach), and occasional frozen/protein foods like bloodworms or brine shrimp.
