Rainbow Stiphodon Goby

Rainbow Stiphodon Gobies (Stiphodon ornatus) are fascinating freshwater fish prized for their colorful markings and unique grazing behavior. Native to Indonesia, these gobies thrive in mature aquariums with smooth rocks, hiding places, and plenty of natural algae and biofilm. Clean, well-oxygenated water and good water movement are essential.

Care Guide:

Size: Up to approximately 3 inches

Temperature: 68–82 °F

pH: 6.5–7.5

Temperament: Generally peaceful; males may become territorial with other gobies. Keep with small, peaceful tank mates and provide plenty of hiding places.

Diet: Specialized algae and biofilm grazer. A mature aquarium with algae-covered rocks is essential. Supplement with algae-based sinking foods if accepted; prepared foods should not replace natural grazing surfaces.

Tank Setup: Provide smooth rocks, established plants, and good aeration. Use a tightly fitting lid, as these gobies can climb glass and escape.
